Many people often think that to learn music/an instrument, all you need to study is music theory—things like rhythm, pitch, dynamics (loud/soft), and some concepts that seem mathematical. They believe that if you just practice hard and memorize enough, you’ll naturally be able to play.
In reality, to truly learn music (or any other subject), beyond understanding theory, abilities like being able to ‘hear’/feel music with your ears and body, as well as hand–eye–brain coordination, problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, emotional expression, imagination, creativity, and perseverance are all important learning elements.
That’s why our brand-new early childhood music enrichment class starts with experiencing and exploring. It first helps build personal character, and only then moves on to theory—before finally getting into performance. As the saying goes, ‘Take it slow to go faster.’ It may seem like it takes a lot of time to learn the ‘real’ instrument, but in fact, the improvement of these abilities is exactly what helps your learning journey go farther—and go faster.
