Teaching Diary - The importance of accompaniment part

Here we will talk about one detail which students are always not aware of -- accomplishment part.

In this video, I asked the boy to play the left-hand part solely. Then he told me "I am sure of the notes without right hand". That means he never paid attention to his left hand when practice before.

Undoubtedly, we always pay attention to the melody part or high register but ignore another part or low register. Especially when pedal is added, all the problems seems "polished".  If you try to extract the accompaniment part and practice solely, you may find the hints of phrasing, chord progression, tension or even hidden melody. Even though if you play string, woodwind or brass instrument, you need to study the accompaniment part as well. You will have different insights on your solo part.
