Teaching Dairy- The meaning of practice (3)

In previous chapters, we discussed different styles of practice and the preparation before practice. Here we will talk more about the "bad habits" during that.

1. Always repeat a certain part several times

- This is probably because of the difficult technique or notes in this part or because we cannot play the next note immediately. To avoid being used to repeating the certain part, we have to practice the technique or memorise the difficult notes and play it precisely. Make sure we won't stop at the same point next time.

2. Restart at the same point wherever we make a mistake

- This is a common bad habit for most of the students. We have to practice how to restart at any point so that we don't rely on muscle memory too much. This technique can also avoid being blank when we make a mistake during competition or performance.

3. Make more and more mistakes or forget the actual notes already after speeding up

- Although it is a fast piece, we have to practice slowly several times before we speed up. Or even we are good enough to speed up, we have to play slowly sometimes to recall all the details and notes so that we won't miss them. Practice slowly and precisely can train our aural as well.

These are parts of the "bad habit" only. Feel free to share your thoughts and more habits! Also, if we have better habit of practice, the progress may be faster than you expected!
